Guest Tim C Posted February 28, 2012 at 02:40 AM Report Share Posted February 28, 2012 at 02:40 AM Our organization has elections coming up in the next 3 months and it has been brought to the attention of a few members that, 3 of the members elected to this years board are planning on running again for re-election. My question on this is, all 3 quit their posts in a meeting and walked out. They did not submit in writing they were wishing to step down, they just stood up in a meeting, said a few choice (curse) words to the members present, left their papers and all on the table and walked out of the meeting. Are they able to run in this years elections or be appointed to positions left open? Than you very much in advance. Our bylaws don't cover anything such as this. Gary Novosielski Posted February 28, 2012 at 02:50 AM Report Share Posted February 28, 2012 at 02:50 AM No rule in RONR would prevent them from running for election again. Of course, if the voters do not approve of their behavior, they will probably vote for somebody else.
g40 Posted February 28, 2012 at 05:31 PM Report Share Posted February 28, 2012 at 05:31 PM And - if enough voters approve of this behavior, they will be re-elected.
Bruce Lages Posted March 3, 2012 at 10:22 PM Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 at 10:22 PM There is also a good chance that these three are still members of the board, since it doesn't sound like any resignation requests were ever formally submitted to, or acted upon, by the party (either the board or the general membership) in your organization that is empowered to fill such vacancies. Guest Edgar Posted March 3, 2012 at 10:49 PM Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 at 10:49 PM There is also a good chance that these three are still members of the board . . .Are you suggesting that's relevant in this instance?
Bruce Lages Posted March 3, 2012 at 11:21 PM Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 at 11:21 PM It certainly could be. Guest TIm C didn't say anything about the details of this election, e.g., whether all the board positions are open for election or not, or even whether any of the open positions are supposed to be for the presumably resigned board members
