Guest Rick D Posted February 29, 2012 at 02:35 PM Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 at 02:35 PM A body with a total of 12 votes . Three individuals are on the ballot for the same position. Would the person with the most votes win or would it need to be the majority of potential votes?
George Mervosh Posted February 29, 2012 at 02:38 PM Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 at 02:38 PM A candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast to be elected. If all 12 vote, that's 7. Be prepared for mulitple rounds of balloting just in case. And leave room for write-ins on the ballot.
jstackpo Posted February 29, 2012 at 03:41 PM Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 at 03:41 PM The majority to win requirement is what RONR says, and, in the absence of other options, is what you have to do.But check your bylaws -- some allow a plurality winner -- more votes than any of the others, but not necessarily a majority of the votes cast. The plurality option would have to be in your bylaws, of course, before the election begins.
