Guest Walter Wells Posted February 29, 2012 at 09:55 PM Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 at 09:55 PM Our non profit society charges $24 per year for membership. This is set out in the bylaws. Some members feel this is out of date and want to assess an extra annual "Entertainment" fee of $176. Can they do this? If a member refuses to pay can they be suspended or lose any rights if the Entertainment fee is properly passed in our meeting? Thanks

Rev Ed Posted March 1, 2012 at 12:28 AM Report Share Posted March 1, 2012 at 12:28 AM The organization has four options, all of which involve amending the By-laws:1) Add a By-law allowing for special assessments, or extra dues for certain events.2) Amend the By-laws to inrease the dues.3) Amend the By-laws to allow the Board, the General Membership, or another group to set the dues.4) A combination of #1 and either #2 or #3.
