Repealing a Motion that passed at a previous meeting

Hello Everyone,

We have a couple members in our group that are upset that a motion passed for a certain amount of money to be spent on something at our Feb. meeting. They are upset that some of them did not attend the meeting and since it was on the agenda but did not specifically say there was going to be a vote on the topic are revolting. One has said they are just going to vote to repeal the motion made. How does this work? Since it was a money issue the money some of it has been spent toward the project it voted and passed on.

Thank you so much !

JOYCE

The motion to Rescind has a higher voting threshold than the original motion -- it requires two-thirds vote without notice OR majority vote with notice OR majority vote of the entire membership. As Mr. Britton noted, you can't rescind any part of the motion that has already been carried out. If any contracts with outside parties are involved, those also cannot be undone by a motion to Rescind (contracts are in the legal arena).

For more information on Rescind, see RONR (11th ed.) pp. 305-310.

I find it somewhat amusing (if I'm reading this correctly) that a few people objected because, although they saw the topic on the agenda, the agenda didn't specifically say they'd VOTE on the topic!

What did they think the group would do? Act out an interpretive dance??

Yes, these people DO sound revolting.
