Guest Mary Whigham Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:40 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:40 PM It was determined by the body that a ruling by our bylaw committee which disqualified a candidate for office was incorrect after the election for the position was held. What is the remedy?

Trina Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:51 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:51 PM Reprimand the members of the bylaws committee for screwing up? Doesn't do much to help the improperly disqualified candidate though...Do you believe this would invalidate the result of the election somehow? Chris Harrison Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 at 02:52 PM Learn for next time. However, it is too late to do anything about it this time (RONR pp. 250-251).
Guest Mary Whigham Posted March 8, 2012 at 03:01 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 at 03:01 PM Yes, it disqualified the person holding the position from serving a second term as allowed by bylaws
Chris Harrison Posted March 8, 2012 at 03:14 PM Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 at 03:14 PM Yes, it disqualified the person holding the position from serving a second term as allowed by bylawsThat is unfortunate but since apparently no Point of Order or Appeal was made at the time of this ruling disqualifying the person it is too late to do anything about it now since the situation didn't fall within one of the five exceptions to the timeliness rule on RONR p. 251.
