Trina Posted March 9, 2012 at 12:35 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 12:35 PM If your bylaws allow for conducting business via e-mail (RONR does not), the bylaws should spell out all such details. If the bylaws do not specifically allow the making and disposition of motions via e-mail, any such activity is null and void. Rev Ed Posted March 9, 2012 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 05:57 PM Normally, a motion is made, seconded (if required), and debate occurs. There are essentially two ways for the vote to come about:1) When there appears to be no more discussion, the Chairman can state something like this: "Do any other members wish to add something to the debate? (pause) If not, then we shall now vote."2) Otherwise a motion to move the previous question can be made. If two-thirds of the members agree, debate would end and voting would commence. Rev Ed Posted March 9, 2012 at 11:51 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 11:51 PM Any member can move the previous question. It does not matter who moved the motion being discussed/voted on. Although unless the By-laws would have to allow a motion to be made by e-mail. Do the By-laws allow for motions to be made by e-mail?
