Our bylaws provide for very specific members of the executive committee including all officers and standing committee chairs. The Chair of the executive committee takes the position that she can invite anyone to a meeting of the executive committee that she wants. What do yu say,

Hi Mark:

Your description of an Executive Committee is a bit different from how Robert's defines or describes an Executive Committee. In Robert's, an Executive Committee is a body that is usually smaller than its board and made up of a few essential officers and perhaps one or two other Directors. Normally, an Executive Committee is thought of as being a "Board within a Board."

In theory, any member of the "committee," could invite guests to attend the "committee" meeting; however, the "body" itself will somehow determine whether they will allow non-members (those other than officers and committee chairman) the opportunity to attend. It's not up to the committee's chairman (presider) to make that determination.

Of course, if this is a public governmental body, other rules may apply.
