Disciplinary Charges

Recommended Posts

If a member of an orginization brings charges against another, can the complainant drop the charges prior to the hearing? Our by-laws are silent on the matter.

If your bylaws have customized disciplinary procedures it will be up to them to supply the details. If you all will be using the procedures in Chapter XX then the matter is out of the individual member's hands after the assembly starts considering the question (which should be whether to refer the matter to a investigating committee).

It is out of order for a member to bring charges against another without an investigating committee's recommendation. See RONR (11th ed.), p. 657, l. 33 - p. 658, l. 3.
