Tazbom Posted June 1, 2012 at 03:56 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 03:56 PM If an organization allows absentee ballots, but also requires a 20% quorum, can the absentee ballots be made to make for a quorum or does the quorum need to be those present? jstackpo Posted June 1, 2012 at 04:00 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 04:00 PM Unless you have a rule that says otherwise in your bylaws, the quorum is those present, only.

David A Foulkes Posted June 1, 2012 at 06:25 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 06:25 PM Is there any specific rule or page you can site and/or post here? I will need it.The first paragraph on page 345 (RONR 11th ed.) will tell you that the quorum is the number of members "who must be present", and has nothing to do with the "number actually voting on a particular question", which is what the absentee ballots represent. Gary Novosielski Posted June 4, 2012 at 08:12 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2012 at 08:12 PM ...But since absentee ballots are not allowed at all, unless authorized in your bylaws, check there to see if the language that authorizes them has some special quorum rule that applies here.If there is no such section then absentee ballots are prohibited anyway, so they can't count toward anything.
