Guest Parliamentarian Apprentice Posted June 6, 2012 at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted June 6, 2012 at 01:47 PM Does Robert's Rules address any rules on limits on the number of members that can be on a commitee? The organization I belong to one of the committees has more than half of the members of the chapter on the committee. The concern is that this group can be a strong "block vote" on a chapter issue. Weldon Merritt Posted June 6, 2012 at 02:11 PM Report Share Posted June 6, 2012 at 02:11 PM Does Robert's Rules address any rules on limits on the number of members that can be on a commitee? The organization I belong to one of the committees has more than half of the members of the chapter on the committee. The concern is that this group can be a strong "block vote" on a chapter issue. So far as RONR is concerened, there is no maximum number of committeee members. Any such limit would have to be in the organization's bylaws or in the motion creating the committee. But your concern assumes that the coimmittee members would all vote the same way, which is not necessarily so. Even if it is, what of it? The committee member have the same right to vote as they deem approriate as do any of the other members of the assembly.
David A Foulkes Posted June 6, 2012 at 02:29 PM Report Share Posted June 6, 2012 at 02:29 PM You might take a look at the section on committees, particularly p. 497 (RONR 11th Ed.) dealing with the proper composition of them.
