Open Board Position Procedure

In the event where a board members term is up but he wishes to remain, do you still have to advertise the open position? Actually what are the rules when you have open board positions, as far as advertising to the public etc? I am talking about a Fire service Area board where the County Commissions appoint board members.

To clarify, we always advertised the position, and then turned the applications in along with our recommendation to the commissioners, they then appointed a person to the board.

My question, are their specific rules to fill a board position?

In this case the two board members wish to remain for another term, do we still have to advertise to the public or just ask the Commissioners to reappoint?

  • 1 year later...

If a chief of a fire/ambulance association steps down, throughout the year, who's responsibility is it to replace that person for the remainder of the year? Is it the President or the chief?

Check your bylaws to see what they say about filling vacancies. If your bylaws are silent, then the vacancy is filled by whoever appointed or elected the position in the first place. Previous notice is required of an election to fill a vacancy.

Additionally, for future reference, please post a new question as a new topic, even if an existing topic seems similar.
