Can you vote to Temporarilly Suspend a By-Law

If your By-Laws state that you must hold general meetings on a monthly basis, could you vote to suspend that by-law and not hold summer meetings?

A bylaw that is in the nature of a rule of order may be suspended; however, a bylaw specifying when meetings are to be held is not that kind of a rule, so it can't be suspended.

Or, as Mr. Wynn said much more succinctly... no.

Well, it could be a rule in the nature of a rule of order. However, a rule can only be suspended for the duration of the session. The next meeting is a different session.

Or, as Mr. Wynn said much more succinctly... no.

Succinctly, the answer is still, "no." :)

Huh?

In any event, even if meetings "must be held" during the summer months, there's no rule that says that anyone has to show up.

See you in September.

That's true, but the trouble is that the club may be a whole lot different in September if a quorum of members shows up at some of those meetings and start adopting and amending this and that.

In other words, it's never safe to leave a string of sessions lying around and expect them to behave.
