Guest radar Posted September 20, 2012 at 02:50 AM Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 at 02:50 AM We have a proposed bylaw coming up for a vote, proper notifaction was given for this change. This proposed change is due to be voted on at our next general meeting. We find that this prosposal is not very well written and has caused a lot of confusion, therefore when it is done to bring up this change, we would like to be able to return it to the bylaw committee. Can the president and bylaw committee chair make this decision to return it to the bylaw committe or do we ask for a motion from the floor to return it to the bylaw committee? J. J. Posted September 20, 2012 at 03:08 AM Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 at 03:08 AM The members would have to refer this to a committee.
jstackpo Posted September 20, 2012 at 07:25 AM Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 at 07:25 AM And any member can move to refer the motion containing the bylaw amendments (back) to the Bylaw Committee. Majority to adopt.
Guest Guest Posted September 20, 2012 at 09:57 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 at 09:57 PM is this motion debateable?
Matt Schafer Posted September 20, 2012 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 at 10:10 PM A motion to Refer or Commit is debatable. Debate must be limited to whether the main motion should be referred or to other details of the referral (for example, which committee to refer to). g40 Posted September 21, 2012 at 02:43 AM Report Share Posted September 21, 2012 at 02:43 AM Depending on the nature of the changes to make this bylaw amendment more "well written", if such changes are within the scope of the notice, perhaps the changes could be made during the meeting itself. While this route may not be possible/practical, a review of the details of the problems with the motion might allow this.
