Nominations and Elections

I am a member of a National Organization that has Local and National Bylaws and in the National bylaws it states that the organization will follow the National bylaws and RONR current edition. A tradition in our organization has been if your club nominates a person to National Office you must vote for that person on the first ballot. This is not stated in our National bylaws and so far we have not found a reference in RONR. It is the opinion of our National President that since it is a traditions and their is no bylaw or standing rule stating otherwise that the tradition stands. It is in our opinion that the nomination should be treated as a motion and the club should be able to vote for whom ever they choose. They just can't speak agaist the nominee. The voting is by roll call vote.

Please help this is coming up at our National Convention in October and needs to be resolved.

Can you bring it up as a motion at the National Convention? It's a custom, not a motion or something in RONR, so it falls to the ground if not supported by RONR or your rules.

Have the national president bring it up - "Motion: that clubs vote for their nominee on the first ballot", and then see what happens.
