Can director or officer run for a different position.

Can a director or an officer run for an another office while he or she is in mid term of an existing electected term. Can they run for a different position without resigning from the current postion in the organization they hold.

Yes to both questions.

And... unless your bylaws say otherwise, he might even be able to hold both offices (but get only on vote). Most likely, however, your (unstated-?) rule is one office at a time.

Yes. Even if your rule or custom is that people can hold only one position at a time, they may "run" for another office (or multiple offices) without resigning, and see how the election turns out before making any decisions.

You don't need a citation (for a rule that doesn't exist). The burden of proof is on whoever is saying that one person can't "run for" (or be nominated for or be elected to or hold) more than one office. So ask him to show you that rule.
