Guest kimd55 Posted October 26, 2012 at 02:43 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 at 02:43 AM If members have problems with a formal recommendation from a committee report, can they amend and change everything on the formal recommendation or does the committee need to go back to reconsider what they are recommending? Chris Harrison Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:05 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:05 AM Both are options. After the Committee presents its recommendations the question is before the assembly to do with as they wish which includes amending the motion, postponing its consideration to the next meeting, referring the question back to the Committee (or the assembly can send it to another committee), adopting or defeating the motion as the Committee put it before the assembly, etc.
kimd55 Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:13 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:13 AM Is there anything in roberts rules that addresses amendments to formal recommendations on committee reports? The committee wanted to purchase t-shirts to wear as they do voter registration activities. The members changed it to have the committee members purchase their own t-shirts so that it doesn't take up a lot of that committee's budget. Chris Harrison Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:24 AM Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 at 03:24 AM RONR has a whole chapter dedicated to that. See RONR pp. 503-529 and pp. 130-168 for the motion to Amend in all of its glory.
