Guest Sandra Posted November 5, 2012 at 06:37 PM Report Share Posted November 5, 2012 at 06:37 PM We are having our AGM. Do we have to call for nominations from the floor three times for every position? Can the executive and the directors be lumped together and nominations from the floor be called for all positions available? Is it proper to call for nominations from the floor -once- and hearing none declare the election over and all positions filled?
jstackpo Posted November 5, 2012 at 07:06 PM Report Share Posted November 5, 2012 at 07:06 PM In the order you asked:1) Not "three times" but at least once.2) Yes, but is probably a lot clearer and straightforward to call for nominations for each office in turn.3) Yes, IF... your bylaws do NOT require a ballot vote for any of the offices. So check your bylaws carefully.
Rev Ed Posted November 5, 2012 at 07:20 PM Report Share Posted November 5, 2012 at 07:20 PM You don't need to ask three times for nominations - the Chairman could simply state "Are there any further nominations for the office of ___?" He could then take a pause, before moving on to the next office. At the end I might offer one additional chance for nominations (i.e. "Are there any further nominations for any position?") before moving on just to make sure.I'd also go with one office at a time. However, there is nothing wrong with the Nominating Committee giving its entire report, and then opening each position up for furhter nominations.
