Letter of resignation not valid

At our last meeting, a letter of resignation was read off that one of our members was resigning from our organization. The assembly voted to accepted this letter. It was later found out that the letter of resignation was not written by this member, it was also found out that the letter of resignation that was read off was not signed by the member, just type written.. What is the guidelines please in robert's rules on this, being that the resignation letter was fake and forged (by someone unknown) that was acted upon by the assembly on our last meeting. What guidelines are there for the assembly to do either in between meetings or at its next meeting when it learns that the letter was fake and forged.. Thank you!!!

The resignation and the acceptance of the resignation are null and void.

The assembly can't act between meetings. At its next meeting, a member can raise a Point of Order that the resignation letter was not written by the member in question and that the resignation is null and void. The chair can also rule on this at his own initiative.

Perhaps the assembly should also appoint a committee to see if it can find out who is behind this. If you can find the culprit, disciplinary action may be appropriate.

I believe the question is, what to do about it. Nothing?

That would be appropriate if they'd caught it earlier, but it seems that the assembly has already acted on the resignation. So they'll need to do something about that.
