Officer resignation

I've seen this question come up a couple of times. It demonstrates a lack of understanding about being a member/Director and being an officer and the relationship between the two.

Maybe this will help:

Suppose that you and 11 other folks are invited to a party. Everyone gets to wear a party hat. Red, blue, green, purple.

Now comes time to play a game and team captains are needed. Of the 12 partiers, three are chosen (by random draw) to become team captains for the game.

The three team captains trade in their colored hat for a silver hat. Teams are chosen, the game commences.

During the game, one team captain wearing a silver hat decides he doesn't want to be captain any more. Another captain is chosen and he now wears the silver party hat.

So, the team captain that gave up his silver hat, does he replace the colored party hat and continue playing the game, or do you send him home?

An officer resigned but now wants to attend convention. Was elected to both

If these are completely separate elections, and the person only resigned from being an officer, then sure - send 'em to the convention.

If only officers can attend conventions, however, then you have more of a problem. Check your bylaws and/or policies for rules about who can go to a convention - is there anything specified?

If this person was an ex officio member of the convention due to his office, and that's the only reason he was a member of the convention, then he's out of luck.

But if he was elected as a delegate to the convention separately from being an officer, then he's still free to attend the convention.

If only officers can attend conventions, however, then you have more of a problem.

It's also possible that officers are ex officio members of the convention, but not the only members.
