Guest youthdude Posted March 1, 2013 at 01:40 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2013 at 01:40 PM We are voting on placing members on a new committee. In a business meeting, the the process was voted on and passed. The process stated that the actual vote would take place at a future date during a specially called meeting, and that no abscentee ballots will be accepted. We now have members who desire absentee balllots and desire to move to allow absentee ballots when the vote comes up.My question is: Can someone move to change the process at this specially called meeting?Thank you, youthdude
jstackpo Posted March 1, 2013 at 02:02 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2013 at 02:02 PM How? There will be no meeting between the "business meeting" just concluded and the special meeting when the voting will take place. Thus no opportunity to amend something previously adopted. And BTW, do your bylaws allow absentee ballots in the first place?
Gary Novosielski Posted March 2, 2013 at 04:26 AM Report Share Posted March 2, 2013 at 04:26 AM We now have members who desire absentee balllots and desire to move to allow absentee ballots when the vote comes up.Well, in the first place, no, as Mr. Stackpole has said. But even if they could, it would not work. Suppose they did move to allow absentee ballots, and the motion passed. The only way people could get the ballots, and return them by the end of the voting, would be to come to the meeting to pick them up in person. But then they would not be absentees, would they?
