Guest 1234 Posted March 1, 2013 at 01:51 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2013 at 01:51 PM A board member submitted her resignation and it was accepted. A week later has decided that she would like to continue to be on the board. Can she simply be reinstated ? or does the process need to follow a different process? Guest Edgar Posted March 1, 2013 at 02:02 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2013 at 02:02 PM You can't really "rescind" the acceptance of a resignation (it would be like trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube), but there's nothing in RONR to prevent the person who resigned from being elected (or appointed if that's an option) to the same position she just vacated. But she'd have no automatic "right" to return (i.e. no more than any other eligible person).

Can she simply be reinstated ? or does the process need to follow a different process? It depends on if your definition of "accepted" is consistent with Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised. If I offer my written resignation outsided or during a meeting, or I offer a verbal resignation during a meeting, and the assembly takes action to accept it, then yes it's accepted. If before the assembly acts I withdraw my resignation, then there no longer is anything to accept.
