Guest Jeremy P Posted March 15, 2013 at 06:53 PM Report Share Posted March 15, 2013 at 06:53 PM Is it allowable for a board of a 501c3 organization to keep the meetings confidential from general members of the organization? Questions are being raised about them being deceitful and certain board members having their own agenda.
jstackpo Posted March 15, 2013 at 07:28 PM Report Share Posted March 15, 2013 at 07:28 PM As far as RONR is concerned, Yes.But applicable laws may say otherwise -- we can't help you with that, however.But... take a look at p. 487, line 17ff. Maybe you can garner enough support at a regular meeting and learn somehting.
Guest Jeremy P Posted March 15, 2013 at 08:08 PM Report Share Posted March 15, 2013 at 08:08 PM I left my book at home so I will have to wait to read that excerpt. They never hold general membership meetings which is another item I am not pleased with. There is absolutely no transparency.

There is absolutely no transparency.Look at the bylaws (and any other governing documents) to see the requirements. There may be aplicable laws/regulations that required confidentiality. Also, there may be some organizations that do not have actual "members" (in the RONR sense), but only governance by a board.
