Guest Guest Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:24 AM Report Share Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:24 AM An Officer of the board had a substantial amount of money from ticket sales stolen. It was reported to the police. The board agreed and voted they the Officer not replace the stolen money. Is an Officer who is working as an agent of the board protected in any way? There is nothing in the bylaws that address this.
Chris Harrison Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:37 AM Report Share Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:37 AM As far as RONR is concerned someone isn't given any blanket protection from discipline just because they are acting as the agent of some body. However, check with a lawyer to see what legal protections this person may have.

sMargaret Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:29 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2013 at 02:29 PM My province has a great publication called Volunteers and the Law, which discusses issues such as liability of organizations and volunteers, and issues of negligence. Negligence, and the legal liability that arises from it, is one of the major legal concerns of volunteers and voluntary organizations.Check to see what is available in your area, and also consult a lawyer - this may protect not just your volunteer, but board members as well.
