Guest julie@nc-mountains.com Posted March 22, 2013 at 06:16 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2013 at 06:16 PM Our organization is a tourism development authority. Can we draft resolutions and adopt them? And can we vote on resolutions? There seems to be some confusion about this. Some members think that resolutions are for government entities (such as a county commissioner board). Is there any concrete rule about resolutions being drafted or voted on by an Authority? Thank you!
jstackpo Posted March 22, 2013 at 06:46 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2013 at 06:46 PM There isn't anything in RONR dealng with "an authority" of the sort you describe.But... don't forget that a "resolution" is nothing more than a motion in fancy dress -- if your "authority" has been adopting "motions" properly (that may depend on the rules that describe who you are and what you can do) then go ahead and gussy up the motion with some "Whereas..." clauses, write it all out in proper format (see p. 105 ff.), which (presto!) turns it into a "resolution".
