Guest David Posted April 1, 2013 at 01:32 AM Report Share Posted April 1, 2013 at 01:32 AM At our recent convention, delegates approved changes to the constitution, elected officers and then adjourned. Later, someone suggested that because the changes were not presented as a committee report and the report not adopted, the changes are invalid. Thoughts anyone? Thoughts anyone?Nothing in RONR requires that amendments to the bylaws come from a committee, although you'll want to look at the amendment process in the bylaws to see if they provide otherwise. See RONR, 11th ed., pgs. 588-591 for some Principles of Interpretation.Additionally, even if the amendments were contained within a committee report, the society would vote on the committee's recommendations (the amendments). You wouldn't vote on adopting the report itself.
