Nomination aceptance Letters from absent individuals

Our American Legion Post has always read letters from absent individuals who state that they would accept nomination to a particular office, even though they would be absent from the nomination meeting. This has always been done at the start of the nomination period. This year, our Post Commander failed to read any letters, thus a past post commander was not nominated for a state delegate position, even though he did send in a letter to the Post Commander. Can he still be put on the ballot?

If the election has come and gone, that is the end of it.

Otherwise, if you think your PPC would be a good delegate, get up a write-in campaign for him. Nominate him from the floor at the election meeting. Be sure you check with the folks printing the ballots to remind them to include a "write-in" line for each office.

It has been a "Past Practice" to read the nomination acceptance letters, but the current commander failed to do so! Because of this the gentleman was not nominated and is perturbed! Any suggestions?

But his failure to follow past practice does not prohibit anyone from being nominated. It's nice to know whether a nominee approves of his nomination, and would presumably serve if elected, but nothing (especially a simple habit or "practice") would make that mandatory rather than just nice to know.

Why didn't someone just nominate him anyway?
