motions - when justified

If you want the association to do something -- take a stand; spend money; amend bylaws; basically anything.

What might you have had in mind that didn't "require" a motion?

Would it require a motion for someone in an organization to be able to look for a lawyer who might be able to help or advice on xyz, not hire the lawyer, but simply look around, get recommendations, etc.?

To, in other words, pick up the phone book and look at the ads in the Yellow Pages? Of course not.

I'd call it fact-finding initiative, laudable in fact, especially among an organization's officers.
