Guest David Blair Posted September 19, 2013 at 11:11 PM Report Share Posted September 19, 2013 at 11:11 PM In the ByLaws for our organization it states that in order to run for an elected position you must attend 2 meetings with a Quarum for the 2 years preceding the election. We have meetings for our Union 11 times a year alternating times for shifts. Over the past 2 years we have not had more then 6 meetings in that calander year to make a quarum. With that being said there are not enough members to make the meetings to run for the elected positions. Can you request from the floor, "make a motion", to wave the ByLaws for nomination so that any member in good standing can run for an elected office? Guest Nancy N. Posted September 20, 2013 at 12:38 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2013 at 12:38 PM Who is this ball-of-fire Guest_Guest from last night? Might it be the same Guest_Guest who was posting all over the place last month and getting everything wrong, causing Josh Martin no end of lost sleep, but has since read up some? Gary Novosielski Posted September 23, 2013 at 08:33 PM Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 at 08:33 PM Looks like you have cooked your goose with that foolish requirement. Since the member has no control over whether a quorum is going to be present when leaving for the meeting, the provision sounds ill-advised on the face of it, and has proven to be just that in practice. But they apparently do not, and so it sounds like you're stuck. Is there any opportunity for you to amend the bylaws (They can't be "waived".) prior to the scheduled election, removing that provision?
