Board Membership

Can one person hold two positions on the board of directors in a non-profit organization?  i.e., President & Treasurer.

Are these actually positions on the board or are these officers of the organization (which may also include membership on the board)?

In other words, it's unlikely that a board would need a treasurer so lets assume this person is the treasurer of the association and not the board.

Similarly, a "president" is usually the president of the organization. A board would typically be presided over by a "chair" (though the president of the association and the chair of the board could very well be the same person).

We have a Board of Directors for our church and on that Board, which governs the temporal affairs of the church, there is a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 1-3 Members at Large.  All members of the Board are also members of the Church.  There's a possibility that the Treasurer may also serve as President next year and I was wanting to know if there's anything that would prevent this in Roberts Rules. Our By-Laws do not specify that we follow Roberts Rules & they also do not specify that the offices have to be held by different persons.  This is the first time that this has happened in the 30+ years we've been a church, & hopefully the last.  We usually like to "groom" a current member for the President's position in the current board members (for continuity), but no one on the current Board is wanting to serve again next year.
