I voted to accept a large assessment from the board, to help out the debt situation. In the dicussion

before the vote, renting out part of the building would eliminate a large portion of the debt.

I and many others assumed that we were executing this plan, and the assessment would help pay

down the debt also.

 

I  and many others find that the Board is not committed to this and just cutting cost in some areas

that will not even put a dent in the debt and we will be in the same situation in 6 months with more

debt

You can't. It's much too late to change your vote. You can, however, move to Rescind the motion approving the assessment, and vote yes on that motion.

 

Additonally, check your bylaws. The society cannot levy additional assessments beyond the regular dues unless the bylaws so provide.

You can't  -- it is too late to "change your vote"  --  RONR, p. 408.

 

However, you are free to move to amend or to rescind the adopted motion that put the "large assessment" in place. See p. 305.
