Guest Wolfman Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:28 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:28 PM When a Board has only eight (8) members where a 2/3 vote is required how does Robert's Rules view a five to three vote?
jstackpo Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:40 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:40 PM As a defeat of the motion in question. 5 is less than 2/3 of 8 (which is 5.33333333...).
Weldon Merritt Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:40 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2014 at 03:40 PM The motion fails, as five is less than two-thirds of eight. A quick way to tell if you have acheived two-thirds is to double the negative vote. It the result is equal to or less than the affirmative vote, you have acheived a two-thirds vote.
