Watson Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:37 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:37 PM In our 10-member assembly, the names of those members present are recorded at the start of the meeting. Thereafter, most questions are decided by Roll Call Votes. The minutes will read something like, "Ayes 8, Tom Bell and Jim Caldwell voted Noe" or "Dan Cooper voted Aye, all others voted Noe." Motion Carried/Lost. It probably seems a bit picky, but it seems to me that a Roll Call Vote should be precisely recorded as to name and action. What exactly is the secretary's responsibility? Comments? You're correct. If a roll call vote is taken, each member's name and vote (or abstention) should be recorded individually.
jstackpo Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:44 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:44 PM If the assembly orders - by majority or some other bylaw-specified vote - a roll call vote, then all voters are identified with their selection, for that particular vote. Otherwise all RONR requires is that the minutes state whether the motion was adopted, defeated, or otherwise disposed of (like postponed, &c.). Also RONR has no requirement to track attendance at meetings.
Bruce Lages Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:44 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 at 10:44 PM If it seems picky to you, you're in good company - RONR agrees with you - 11th ed. p. 422, ll. 9-11.

jstackpo Posted February 28, 2014 at 01:52 AM Report Share Posted February 28, 2014 at 01:52 AM The secretary, I'd presume, since the word is in the minutes.
