Guest Nicole Posted April 10, 2014 at 05:44 PM Report Share Posted April 10, 2014 at 05:44 PM I've been a court reporter for Plan Commission hearings in different communities for years. Just recently I went to a Plan Commission meeting where they did not swear in the petitioner or the resident speakers. Is there any rules about speakers need to be sworn in before speaking at a public hearing? Is it considered an illegal meeting if they do not? Thanks for any input! Gary Novosielski Posted April 10, 2014 at 06:00 PM Report Share Posted April 10, 2014 at 06:00 PM There probably are rules about swearing in speakers at Plan Commission hearings, but they're not covered in RONR. They would probably be covered in your state's statutes or administrative code. No rule in RONR would make any meeting "illegal" based upon whether speakers are or are not sworn in.
