Guest Stephanie Hall Posted April 17, 2014 at 10:03 PM Report Share Posted April 17, 2014 at 10:03 PM My questions has to do with officer elections...Our bylaws have no specifics on location and time for elections. The committee has set a time and location that does not allow all members to have an opportunity to cast a vote... Is there anything that can be done? Guest Edgar Posted April 17, 2014 at 10:08 PM Report Share Posted April 17, 2014 at 10:08 PM Which committee? And by what authority? And is it just that the time and place are inconvenient of is that it is actually impossible for all members to attend? And do your bylaws provide for an annual meeting? Or regular meetings? It depends on who "the committee" is, and where they got the authority to set a time and location, if it wasn't given to them in the bylaws. Guest Stephanie Hall Posted April 23, 2014 at 07:21 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2014 at 07:21 PM The bylaws state the Third Vice president is in charge of elections and forming the election committee. Bylaws also state elections will be the third monday in May, all other details are left up to the election committee. There is a group of about 10 people that will be unable to vote because the time is during their work day. Making it impossible to reach the voting location in time. Guest Edgar Posted April 23, 2014 at 07:58 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2014 at 07:58 PM There is a group of about 10 people that will be unable to vote because the time is during their work day. Making it impossible to reach the voting location in time. What percentage of the total membership do those ten members represent? While every effort should be made to schedule the voting (the meeting where the voting will take place?) at a time that allows for maximum participation, it's likely that whatever the time chosen, someone might not be able to attend. Another option would be to keep a "polling place" open for an extended period of time (e.g. all day) and tally the results at a meeting held later (e.g. that evening). In any event, if enough members think the time chosen is unfair they could direct the elections committee to do better.

Guest Julie Posted April 25, 2014 at 04:52 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2014 at 04:52 AM Our bylaws require members seeking office during our state conference to present a letter from the local organization stating they are financial and have attended at least 7 meetings during the year. We have one of them who has not registered by the deadline set by our president. Can this person be eligible for elections during our state conference if she is NOT registered to attend? This state conference is the only way officers are elected. PS...we do not allow nominations from the floor, due to the letter requirements.
