Guest Shawne Posted April 22, 2014 at 04:16 AM Report Share Posted April 22, 2014 at 04:16 AM At a general membership meeting, can a club member stand up and make a motion or does the motion have to be presented to the elected board BEFORE the meeting and then be discussed before the general membership votes on it? Rev Ed Posted April 22, 2014 at 05:19 AM Report Share Posted April 22, 2014 at 05:19 AM The general membership can make the decision on its own at its own meeting, there is no need for the Board to approve it first. However, this is based on RONR. The By-laws of the organization, or a statute covering the organization, may set different rules. For example, in some jurisdictions a statute may require the notice for a meeting of the general membership to include all issues requiring a decision so that members know in advance of what will come up.
