Guest A. Jones Posted April 24, 2014 at 05:47 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2014 at 05:47 AM Is there a provision in Roberts Rules prescribing whether or not and how a voting member can be sanctioned by the board?
Chris Harrison Posted April 24, 2014 at 09:57 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2014 at 09:57 AM Check your bylaws first to see if they speak to the issue and if not check out RONR Chapter XX.
Transpower Posted April 24, 2014 at 12:31 PM Report Share Posted April 24, 2014 at 12:31 PM RONR (11th ed.), p. 649, ll. 26-29: "...even when improper conduct occurs at a meeting, in order for disciplinary action to be taken other than promptly after the breach occurs, charges must be preferred and a formal trial held." In my experience, most organizations do not have an article on disciplinary procedure in their Bylaws, so Robert's applies here.
Josh Martin Posted April 24, 2014 at 06:37 PM Report Share Posted April 24, 2014 at 06:37 PM In my experience, most organizations do not have an article on disciplinary procedure in their Bylaws, so Robert's applies here. In this case, however, the topic's title is "Sanctioning a member of the legislative body." In my experience, most legislative bodies (or assemblies which like to think of themselves as legislative bodies) have their own disciplinary procedures.
