Guest Julie Posted April 25, 2014 at 05:09 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2014 at 05:09 AM Can a member seek election to an office at a state conference without being registered, despite sending a letter of notification to the president that she is seeking office, but her letter does not specify the office, only interest in being an officer? J. J. Posted April 25, 2014 at 05:37 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2014 at 05:37 AM Unless the bylaws say otherwise, yes (p. 444, ll. 17-20).
Guest Julie Posted April 25, 2014 at 12:10 PM Report Share Posted April 25, 2014 at 12:10 PM But doesn't she have to be present to accept or deny her position, if elected? This is our annual meeting and our bylaws state that candidates for office must submit a letter by a deadline. We "assume" they will be registered. Without a conference badge, they cannot enter meeting chamber to declare nor deny the position to which they want to be elected.
Gary Novosielski Posted April 25, 2014 at 12:27 PM Report Share Posted April 25, 2014 at 12:27 PM No, it is not required that they be present. Even if actually elected, they only need to be "informed" of their election, in case they wish to decline. The requirements you refer to do not exist in RONR. If they exist in the rules of your society, only you would know.
