Nominations from the floor done incorrectly

Presiding officer wants to conduct nominations from the floor at our final meeting of the year wherein we elect our officers.  Our by-laws state that nominations from the floor were to be done at the meeting prior to the final (last) meeting.  This was not done then.  Can nominations from the floor still be done?

Irregularities in the nominating process are usually not fatal.

As long as people can be nominated, and members can make nominations, this issue is not fatal.  Plus, it may be beneficial to make the By-law a bit more clear, for example the By-law could state that nominations are to be opened at the prior meeting and shall remain open until a motion to close nominations at the following meeting.

Yes.  Especially if they were not done last time.  Better late than never.

It wouldn't be "fatal" (which I assume means that the election would be invalid) even if no one could be nominated and no one could make nominations. As Edgar notes, members can cast write-in votes for members who are not nominated. Failing to take nominations at all would not constitute a continuing breach.
