Guest HCarl Posted May 1, 2014 at 06:15 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2014 at 06:15 PM We are a municipal Finance Committee. We voted a position on an article on our Town Meeting warrant and we voted not to approve the article. The article has not been adopted (Town Meeting hasn't occurred yet). The committee chair wants to bring the article up for a re-vote in our next meeting. It's my understanding that a motion to rescind the previous vote must be made at our next meeting (and the motion can be made by any commiteee member) and that it requires a 2/3 vote to pass. Is that correct?

Is that correct? If I understand the facts correctly, the committee adopted a motion to recommend that the article be defeated. If this is the case, the motion to Rescind is in order, but your facts are not quite complete. In a committee, the motion to Rescind can be made by any member and it requires a 2/3 vote unless all members of the committee who voted in favor of the motion to be rescinded are present or have received ample notice, in which case a majority vote is sufficient.
