Guest sharon Posted May 6, 2014 at 11:52 AM Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 at 11:52 AM Should a "Past President" of a small group automatically become the Parliamentarian? Or should they remain 2 separate positions?
Dan Honemann Posted May 6, 2014 at 11:59 AM Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 at 11:59 AM If your organization needs to have a parliamentarian (which is unlikely), your president should be free to appoint one in whom he has confidence. See RONR, 11th ed., pages 465-67, for more information.
Guest Edgar Posted May 6, 2014 at 03:49 PM Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 at 03:49 PM Should a "Past President" of a small group automatically become the Parliamentarian? Or should they remain 2 separate positions? It is the opinion of many on this forum that the "past president" shouldn't be a "position" (i.e. an office) at all. Guest Janet Jacobs Posted May 12, 2014 at 04:10 PM Report Share Posted May 12, 2014 at 04:10 PM I agree with Daniel. See page 465 in RONR 11th Edition -Parliamentarian. The parliamentarian is an advisor. A President should be free to appoint one in whom he/she has confidence. It would be risky and unadvisable, in my opinion, to have the past President automatically designated as the Parliamentarian. Of course, your bylaws should be consulted. Do they say anything that would override RONR?
