ecugss Posted May 16, 2014 at 01:51 AM Report Share Posted May 16, 2014 at 01:51 AM We have an election to fill and the vote was by ballot. I am the president but didn't vote. There were 4 candidates, results were 11 votes and 1 abstantion. Candidate A recd 0 votes, Candidate B recd 1 vote, Candidate C & Candidate D both received 5 votes. How do we handle deciding wonder? David A Foulkes Posted May 16, 2014 at 01:54 AM Report Share Posted May 16, 2014 at 01:54 AM A majority (more than half) of votes cast is required to elect. Half of 11 is 5 1/2. Since no candidate received more than 5 1/2 votes, you have an incomplete election and need to vote again (and again and again) until a candidate gets at least 5 1/2 (okay, we'll call it 6 or more) votes. If at first you don't succeed......... Why didn't you vote?
Gary Novosielski Posted May 16, 2014 at 02:27 AM Report Share Posted May 16, 2014 at 02:27 AM Next time, vote. Since the vote is by ballot, the chair votes along with everyone else.

Was this vote conducted by mail-in ballot? If so do your bylaws specifically authorize the use of them?
