Guest Chris Posted May 20, 2014 at 01:48 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2014 at 01:48 PM if a motion is made and then seconded, can someone make a motion to table the original motion to a later date? Does making the motion to table overrule the original motion?

Gary Novosielski Posted May 20, 2014 at 02:14 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2014 at 02:14 PM if a motion is made and then seconded, can someone make a motion to table the original motion to a later date? Does making the motion to table overrule the original motion? No. Tabling cannot be done "to a later date". Postponing can, and that's the right motion, as long as you don't postpone it past the next regular meeting. If you want it to go away for longer than that, you can refer it to a committee. All these motions must take precedence over the main motion itself, or else they could never be used.
