Sha5ron Posted May 21, 2014 at 04:49 PM Report Share Posted May 21, 2014 at 04:49 PM I am a member of a church council. Three of us are now ending our three years of service. Nominations for new council members are being made by the current members of the church council. The president has nominated his father-in-law and his mother-in-law (wife of the nominee) has been our church secretary for 20 years. Another member has nominated her cousin. Nepotism was challenged by another council member at which time the cousin removed her name from the ballot. The father-in-law refuses to do the same and will not recluse himself. Comments/suggestions are appreciated.
Timothy Posted May 21, 2014 at 05:01 PM Report Share Posted May 21, 2014 at 05:01 PM There is nothing in RONR that prohibits nominating family members. If you don't think the nominees are the right people for the job, nominate someone else. Personally, I'm of the opinion that church councils should be nominated from the floor, but there is no such requirement.
Edgar Guest Posted May 21, 2014 at 05:02 PM Report Share Posted May 21, 2014 at 05:02 PM There is no rule in RONR that prohibits members from nominating someone they're related to. And, of course, the congregation is free to elect someone else.
