Motion from the Floor

All, it has come to our attention that an association member will make a motion from the floor to donate money (a lot of money) to another association without the Board having first reviewed the request and making a recommendation.  How do we handle as a member?  Thanks.

The board is required to approve all payments, other than those that are in the normal course.  If the board doesn't approve this expenditure beforehand, how can a member bring a motion to donate money to someone else?  Perhaps that is clearer????

We didn't know that (how could we?).

In RONR-Land an association starts out with no board and, if there is a board, it starts out with no authority. Clearly your rules differ. But we don't know your rules and this isn't the place to figure them out. That's the responsibility of your members.

Given that the bylaws (I assume) specify that the board must approve such an expenditure, here's what I would suggest the member do:

  1. Make a motion to amend the bylaws to strip the board of that power.
  2. If #1 is adopted, make the motion to donate the money.
