Guest Stretch Posted June 11, 2014 at 10:51 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2014 at 10:51 PM Can a discussion be tabled? To be clear, this is just a discussion and not a discussion that takes place after a Motion has been made. If so, what is the proper procedure for doing so and by whom? Can anyone table a discussion? Does it require a Motion? Thanks in advance for your advice.
Timothy Posted June 11, 2014 at 11:13 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2014 at 11:13 PM Assuming your rules allow for discussion without a motion, I would say that there is no reason to table discussion. A person could simply make a motion and whatever discussion was going on would have to end until after the motion and debate of the motion completed. If there are no other items of business to deal with, a person could make a motion to adjourn and the discussion would end as well.
Gary Novosielski Posted June 12, 2014 at 03:10 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2014 at 03:10 PM No. If there's no motion, there's nothing to table. In fact, in most cases, even motions can't be "tabled". See FAQ#12.
