Amending bylaws

Greeting,

My question relates to an effort to amend the bylaws of our association.The proposed admendments were made but it was discovered that the bylaws that were trying to be admended were the wrong bylaws. A motion was made and seconded to table the proposal. what is the correct protocol to fix this if any?

I suppose the chair should rule the proposed amendments out of order (on the grounds that they are not amending the right bylaws).

 

By the way, the motion to Lay on the Table was used improperly. See FAQ #12.

It would be extremely unusual for an organization to have more than one set of bylaws. When you refer to the 'wrong bylaws' are you talking about an outdated version of your (hopefully one and only set of) bylaws?

I was hoping it would be something more, uh, entertaining. Such as the bylaws of an entirely different organization. But then I decided it was safer not to ask.

I  was referreing to an outdated version of our current bylaws, we only have one set, but the committee responsible for the proposal to admend the bylaws had the wrong version. It created quiet a bit of confusion during the reading of proposed changes. I now understand the motion made to table it was improper and that the chair should rule the proposals out of order. Our upcoming meeting in 2 weeks is really going to be entertaining.
