Josh Martin Posted June 22, 2014 at 03:16 PM Report Share Posted June 22, 2014 at 03:16 PM Can a board member post a write-in sheet for members to sign who were not at the nomination meeting? So far as I can determine, it does not violate any rule in RONR for a board member to put out a sheet of paper for members who wish to be write-in candidates to sign, although it should be noted that (unless your rules provide otherwise), members can still cast write-in votes for any eligible person whether or not they have signed such a sheet. would that be illegal or against the law in any way? That sounds like a question for a lawyer.
Gary Novosielski Posted June 23, 2014 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted June 23, 2014 at 06:43 PM Can a board member post a write-in sheet for members to sign who were not at the nomination meeting? would that be illegal or against the law in any way? It's not clear what the purpose of this sheet is. If it is to express a desire to be a write-in candidate, then there does not seem to be anything improper about it. If it is intended as a way for people who were not present at the meeting to actually make nominations afterward, then it would seem to be improper. However, if there will be another meeting before the election actually takes place, nominations can be reopened at that time.
