If there is a guest speaker listed on the agenda during a convention session, does the presiding officer need to take a recess from the reports that are being given ? After the speaker has finished speaking, does the presiding officer call the meeting back to order ?

No recess is necessary.   The chair can simply say "If there is no objection we will hear from...."

 

Or if perhaps the most recent report has included a motion that is pending when the speaker shows up to talk, someone can move to Table that motion to clear the decks for the speaker.

 

Then after the speaker finished, someone can move to take that motion from the table so consideration of it can resume.

 

This is a legitimate use of Table, and the first such encountered on this bulletin Board as far as I can remember.
