Guest Annye Posted July 10, 2014 at 08:27 AM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 08:27 AM Is there anything in ROberts Rules that covers ex council members who continue to speak and act like members? One is negotiating monetary commitments for the council without council approval. The other disbanded a standing committee (outlined in our by laws) because she didn't think it was needed. Neither was on the council when taking these actions.
Dan Honemann Posted July 10, 2014 at 09:34 AM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 09:34 AM The last chapter in the book (beginning on p. 643) covers disciplinary proceedings, but it would appear that these unauthorized monetary commitments and the attempt to disband a standing committee have no validity. Thomas Ralph Posted July 10, 2014 at 12:21 PM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 12:21 PM If they aren't members, you need an attorney, not RONR. The worst thing that RONR conceives of happening to people is being stripped of membership. Perhaps the 12th edition will feature defenestration. Robert B Fish Posted July 10, 2014 at 12:44 PM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 12:44 PM Why not just ignore their actions and notify those with whom they're dealing that the former members are no longer in positions of any authority with your group? (Certainly cheaper than hiring legal representation, although that could be the most prudent course.) -Bob
Timothy Posted July 10, 2014 at 01:41 PM Report Share Posted July 10, 2014 at 01:41 PM I doubt an attorney is required at this point. My experience with attorneys has been that the first thing they ask is, "have you talked to the person?" A bigger problem than a person telling people things they have no business telling them is that people are listening and responding. That, I expect, can be taken care of by communicating the situation to the people involved.
