Guest tk Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:03 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:03 PM A nominating committee has a slate of directors to present to the general membership. If a nomination from the floor occurs- is a written ballot and vote for each position needed or just the position the floor nomination is for? The bylaws do not state how to handle this only that a written ballot is needed.
Weldon Merritt Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:14 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:14 PM If the bylaws specify that a ballot is required, and no exception is provided for offices for which there is only one nomination, then a ballot must be used for all positions, whether or not there are floor nominations for any of the offices. And space must be allowed for write-in votes for each office.
Timothy Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:36 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 07:36 PM As Weldon pointed out, if a ballot is required, it must be used for all positions because people might choose to write-in a name that isn't on the ballot. However, if a ballot is not required, there is nothing to be gained by taking a vote on each position for each there is only one nominee. These can be elected by acclamation, with individual votes being taken on the others.
Sparky317 Posted July 14, 2014 at 08:38 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 08:38 PM If a ballot is required and two names are presented for nomination 45 days before an AGM per the rules of the society can a write in candidate be applied 14days after that date and after the ballot papers are sent out to membership
Rev Ed Posted July 14, 2014 at 08:43 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 at 08:43 PM The write-in candidate can simply be written on any ballot that a member is filling out. Plain and simple.
